highway Interstate-5 Widening & improvements The California Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the City of Stockton and the San Joaquin Council of Governments, proposes to make freeway and interchange improvements to Interstate 5 located in northwest Stockton. Improvements include adding mainline lanes, constructing auxiliary lanes, modifying existing interchanges, and constructing new interchanges. In addition, the project would include 16 bridge widenings, miles of soundwalls, and drought-tolerant landscape. DCA provided architectual, landscape, and irrigation design. Aesthetic design was multi-faceted and included a soundwall pattern with community context, unique but cohesive undercrossing design, and bridge aesthetics. The extensive widening in a narrow corridor required a detailed demolition plan designed to reuse and recycle as muc irrigation, infrastrcuture, and landscape as possible. |
