highway 99 / arch road interchange Nominated for the 2007 AIA Sierra Valley Design Excellence Award, and a successful integration of art, architecture and landscape. To improve safety and circulation at Arch Road and State Route 99, the existing Arch Road overpass was replaced with a single point urban interchange, with State Route 99 bridging over Arch Road. Extensive landscaping along Arch Road and on the terraced slopes along State Route 99 will provide a welcoming gateway to travelers and commerce entering the City of Stockton or the Stockton Metropolitan Airport. A public art component, along with architectural treatment to the retaining walls and bridge, will enhance this interchange, the first of its kind in San Joaquin County.
