DCA was established in Stockton, CA by Stephan Castellanos FAIA and Linda Derivi, AIA, husband and wife, and has been under their uninterrupted leadership since 1979, with Mr. Castellanos taking a leave of absence from 2000-2005 to serve as California’s State Architect under Governors Gray Davis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Stockton Natives, Steve and Linda have participated as citizens interested in supporting their community with their professional skills as well as their belief in the area’s richness of culture and natural resources. A community can flourish only when those whose passion for it assume roles of leadership: Ms. Derivi was the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Woman of the Year in 2008, and Mr. Castellanos was elected President of the San Joaquin Delta Community College Board of Trustees in 2009, testaments to their serious dedication to the community in which they have practiced all of their professional lives.
This dedication to community is shared by members of the DCA staff. Many are members of arts committees, preservation boards, participate in local education, and write articles for local newspapers and trade journals.
